Netflix are onto this dark predilection of ours and, after the success of Making A Murder, The Keepers, 13th and all the rest, won't stop making them until we're all basically fully qualified detectives.

Next out of the conveyor belt is Strong Island, and early signs suggest it may come to represent the high water mark of genre's streaming binge revival.

It tells the story of the racially charged murder of the filmmaker Yance Ford's brother William Ford Jr in 1992, his killer's acquittal and how – incredibly – he became a prime suspect in his own murder.

At the Sundance Film Festival Strong Island picked up the prestigious Special Jury Award for Storytelling, while the Guardian (5 stars) and New Yorker power have both raved about its power and intensity. Right now it's rocking a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomato.

You can watch Strong Island on Netflix and bore everyone at work about how good it is from 15 September.
