Tommy Shelby Will Face One Hell Of A New Enemy In 'Peaky Blinders' 4

Steve Knight reveals details about season 4's new characters

It's obvious from the extremely promising trailer that Peaky Blinders season 4 is going 'back to basics', with Tommy and the gang turfed out of the gilded mansion they occupied in season 3 and back on the mean streets of Birmingham where they belong.

Less clear is the natural of the enemy they'll face, though in a new interview with Empire show creator Steven Knight has shed some light on the matter.

We already knew Oscar-winner Adrien Brody has been added to the cast, and Knight has revealed her will play the leader of "a gang of Italian-Americans". This might explain Polly's line in the trailer where she says the Blinders are out of their league – Italian-Americans gangsters having something of an edge in that department.

(Random, unsubstantiated theory: could some sort of a meeting with Al Capone be on the cards? The timelines certainly match up...)

Game of Thrones star Aidan Gillen is the other new addition to the cast, and here's what Knight had to say about his character.

"[He is a] hard-nut gypsy who is said to be an 'uneasy' ally of Tommy Shelby.

"Aidan is a sort of, in the face of danger it's like pressing the nuclear button – you get him to help. Let me put it that way."

Sounds good to us. Now where's that official premiere date?

We can't wait.
