Here's The First Cast Member Of George R. R. Martin's New TV Show

Night Flyers is well underway

There hasn't much official news around the hotly anticipated TV adaptation of George R. R. Martin's 1980 novella Night Flyers, but that author has been teasing little details here and there.

The series, telling the story of researchers who find themselves trapped on a malfunctioning spaceship, is being filmed in Ireland, and is set to employ a cast and crew of over 500 people.

And now the first of those cast members has been revealed. George R. R. Martin turned to his blog yesterday to reveal that Jodie Turner-Smith had signed up the series.

The actress, who has starred in True Blood, The Neon Demon and The Last Ship, will play Melantha Jhirl, a genetically enhanced human described in the book as "a head taller than anyone on board, a large-framed, large-breasted, long-legged, strong, muscles moving fluidly beneath shiny coal-black skin."

Martin seems more than happy with the decision. In his blog post he states: "Maybe it took thirty years, but at long last I can say: now, that's my Melantha Jhirl."
