Here's a story that'll warm your heart: a restaurant in Sidcup, just outside London, will welcome homeless people and the elderly who would otherwise be spending Christmas Day alone to come and enjoy a three course meal free of charge on December 25th.

What a selfless thing to do.

The Turkish restaurant, called Shish Restaurant, has displayed posters on its windows advertising the kind offer, and it caught the attention of one Sidcup resident, Kirsty McAdam, who shared it on Facebook, reports Yahoo News.

Uploading a picture of the posters, Kirsty wrote: "How lovely! https://www.facebook.com/images/emoji.php/v6/f6c/1/16/2764.png" and later felt like she wanted to share the restaurant's gesture of good will with more people, so posted it on the Facebook group 'Shit London' with the caption "not so shit London".

Shish Restaurant is offering a starter of soup with cacik, which is a Turkish seasoned yoghurt dish, a choice of either chicken shish or chicken or vegetarian casserole for the main course, and rice pudding for dessert.

Guests are invited to come to the restaurant between 12-6pm on Christmas Day to eat for free, but what's perhaps most heartwarming about the restaurant's sentiment is how they've written "we are here to sit with you" on the poster.

Because while most of the people who will make use of Shish Restaurant's kind offer will also be struggling for money, it must be the loneliness of Christmas that is hardest to deal with.

While it feels like everyone else is happy and busy celebrating with their families on Christmas Day, those who have no-one will feel at their most alone. But spending Christmas Day in the company of others in similar situations will hopefully bring them great joy and comfort.

We'll make something of 2016 yet.
