Never far from the top of any booze-related shame leagues, it turns out the UK loves Prosecco more than any other country in the world - and by quite some way.

The Consortium for the Protection of Prosecco - important work guys, well done - reported that out of all the 410.9 million bottles of fizz produced, one third went straight to the UK.

That is approximately one hundred thirty-five million five hundred ninety-seven thousand bottles of Prosecco that we managed to consume in one year.

In fact, three quarters of all Prosecco produced went overseas, but we pipped the United States and Germany to the post as the biggest fans of all.

One factor is that producers a bumper harvest, seeing a 44.8% increase in Prosecco production between 2014 and 2016.

To which we can only really say: cheers.
