How to be a 24-carat commuter

Far be it for us to question the judgement of insurance men, but there's something slightly counter-intuitive about the prize being offered by iLoveMyBike for any attendees of The Cycle Show in Earl's Court who request a quote - a gold-plated bike worth £12,500.

The Brompton S2L, we're told, was stripped, polished, plated in copper and then 24ct gold. We're also pleased to learn that the general gold-ness of the features even applies to the "spoke nipples". Of course, the fact that it's a foldable Brompton considerably reduces the likelihood of it being nicked while locked to a railing. (But not of you being bopped over the head at a T-junction. Just saying.) We're not sure we'd have the cojones to ride this bad boy, but if you're feeling lucky visit the show next month.
