We've come to the belated conclusion that there are too many books being published. Most of us have bedside tables buckling under the strain of the seventeen titles on our current reading list.
Military histories, film biographies, "spellbinding" novels, science books we half-heartedly believe might make us appear a little smarter than we are - the choice is enough to make a grown man need a lie down with a damp tea towel on his forehead.
For those of you of similarly weak-minded and indecisive disposition, we've found some simple respite we thought we'd share:
• Narrow your choice down to six books (that's the hard bit)
• Roll a dice (we know this should be die but it kind of sounds wrong)
• You can probably guess the rest.
Yes, it's nothing more original than a cultural rip-off of Luke Reinhart's The Dice Man, but don't knock it till you've tried it - it might just change your life. Just remember the only rule – adherence to the die no matter what. Even if that means reading Wayne Rooney's autobiography to the very last page.
