The Home-From-Home: Claridge's Hotel

Claridge’s remains a London institution for good reason: it’s an emblem of glamour, comfort and quality service. The interior is art deco, brushed steel and Lalique crystal, with walls adorned with portraits by legendary photographer William Klein.

The champagne list is extraordinary and the cocktails are, predictably, superb (try the dark almond punch, £16). For business meetings, the Map Room is furnished with computers and iPads and available 24/7. And the hotel recently unveiled 25 new rooms and suites designed by David Linley.

The menu includes Serious Pig British charcuterie, Mr Trotter’s pork crackling and deliciously piquant roquefort and crackers. What’s more, the menu is called, quite literally, “Best of British”. We rest our case (on a bespoke Linley armchair).

Rooms from £300pn; Linley suites from £648pn. 49 Brook Street, London claridges.co.uk
