It's a well known culinary fact that everyone has a 'secret' ingredient that makes their bolognese the best bolognese in the land: dark chocolate, coffee beans, Tobasco, we thought we'd heard them all... until now.
Because Mary Berry has just changed the game. And the Great British public are not happy about it.
During a segment on her new BBC 2 program, Mary Berry Everyday, the Middle England kitchen stalwart instructed unsuspecting viewers to add, "white or red [wine]" to their sauce, adding, "Whatever you've got to hand - although I really prefer to add white.
"There's never any left in our household. I might even have to open a bottle especially."
Mary, you renegade - what have you done? People's bologneses are at stake here. Red wine? Fine, absolutely fine. Nothing wrong with a dash of red. But white?
This isn't a game, Mary.
But that's not all, continuing on her destructive path to 'Bolognese-mageddon', Mary said: "My secret is to make it even richer by adding double cream ... it just enriches it."
Is there no end to your deceit, Mary?
Understandably, Mary's loyal acolytes were hurt and confused by her words, taking to social media to vent their frustrations and uncertainties.
Look at what you've done, Mary. Cast ye eyes upon the black chaos.
I hope you and your creamy, Sauvignon-ridden bolognese are happy?
