Being a vegan abroad can pose a whole range of problems. Sometimes the restaurant doesn't do pine nuts. Other times the cauliflower pizza base is just a bit too soggy. Or, as one unlucky Brit abroad discovered, a simple salad actually turns out to be the most depressing meal you could ever imagine.
Away for some sun, sea and soya milk with her family in Malaga recently, 17-year-old Georgina Jarvis (who's actually been a vegan for three years fyi) was presented with a great big plate of raw vegetable sadness at a local restaurant.
Just look at state of this.
In a Twitter post that has since been removed, Georgina's sister, Gabbie, presented unto the world this melancholy arrangement of raw onion and tomato, writing: "Out for tea and the restaurant claimed they catered for vegans, this was my sisters amazing vegan meal."
Speaking to The Sun about her sister's plate of raw vegetable despair, Gabbie expanded on the sorry tale: "We were out to dinner as a family.
"A member of staff came out to greet us and my dad asked if they catered for vegans.
"The man claimed they did.
"Georgina originally ordered a vegetarian pizza with no cheese but serving staff came out and told us shortly after that it had egg in it and she should look at the salads.
"When it arrived, me and Georgina shared awkward eye contact and I couldn't help but laugh."
And now we're sad again.
Stay strong, Georgina.
