Wine for the weekend - Alessandro Gallici Prosecco Brut NV

We spent an evening last week propping up the bar at Frank’s Cafe in Peckham (frankscafe.org.uk). Once you get past the fact that it’s on the top of a dodgy multi-storey carpark, and the stairs leading up to the sixth floor smell of piss, then you’ll find it’s a smashing bar. Good drinks, impressive views and tasty, self-consciously British snacks.

Anyway, to the point: while we were there, we had several excellent glasses of prosecco and Campari – we’d forgotten what a good drink this is. So, this Bank Holiday, we recommend everyone gets their hands on a decent bottle of the Italian sparkling. Our current favourite - a bargain for a tenner - is from Laithwaites. It ticks every box: fresh, crisp, clean, with elegant flavours of grapefruit, peach and pear. Of course, you won’t be able to taste its subtle deliciousness if you chose to chuck Campari in the mix, so save that for plonk from Lidl.
