British vodka strikes gold

The London Olympics might still be two years off but British gold medals, whatever they’re for and wherever they're presented, are worth celebrating. So, hats off to one of our favourite vodka brands, Herefordshire-based Chase Vodka, for winning a Double Gold Medal at the prestigious San Francisco Spirits Competition.

Readers of Esquire will know that we've been covering the sharp rise in UK-based boutique distilleries for some time, so it's great to see that they're now making their mark on the world stage. Chase, the boutique distillery started by Tyrells Crisps founder William Chase, uses Maris Piper, Lady Claire and Lady Rosetta potatoes in its award-winning vodka.

Chief distiller Jamie Baxter is also proud of the company's eco credentials: “We use the waste potatoes to feed the cows, the potato peel as compost and the waste from the still to irrigate the fields. We can even tell you which field each bottle of vodka has come from!”

Chase Vodka is available from Selfridges, Fortnum & Masons and Waitrose, priced from £32.95. For more information, click here.
