Do you love the feel of the racetrack under your shoes, the crowd calling your name and the beat of your heart against your chest? Or are you a cross-country champion, ripping up shreds of turf and powering through the thickest overgrowth? Or do you just enjoy the occasional jog around the block?
Whatever the answer, now is your chance to race against people the world over in the NikePlus Human Race Challenge, an event that's being billed the world’s largest ever virtual run. The 10k sprint – which takes place on 24 October – can be done by anyone and anywhere in the world. It doesn’t matter if you’re on a track, up a mountain, in a city or even on the Great Wall of China, you’ll be running against each other.
How? First, you must sign up to the event on www.nikeplus.com, where you’ll get a free tee shirt. Then, using Nike’s state of the art Ipod Sport Kit which slips in your shoe and wirelessly connects to your MP3 player, you’ll be able to record your ten-kilometre run. The wireless kit stores your time, distance, calories and pace and all you have to do once you've complete the 10km is link it up with your computer (MAC or PC) to transfer the results online. You’ll also be able to find training programmes and tips at the Nike website.
So, whack on those old size nines, scrub the sweat off those half-nylon, half-lyrca jogging pants and get ready to run Forrest run!
