Postcard from Milan fashion week

Zegna's Z Zegna range for next spring won’t be easily incorporated into an existing wardrobe, but that didn't dampen our ardour for one of the most exciting collections that we saw over the weekend in Milan.

The spats and top hats shouldn't distract you from the elegance of the slim lines of the Victorian-influenced suits. Another highlight was the two-button double breasted jackets; they weren't the only ones we saw in the collections, but what’s interesting is that the form offers a way that double-breasted - hitherto a determinedly middle-aged style - might go though a successful fashion rehabilitation.

The fact that hats were part of the look encouraged us to believe that there may yet be a revival of hat wearing by men. Despite our admiration for the show, however, it seems unlikely that even Zegna can re-introduce the spat to our generation, although we like the fact they're trying.  www.zzegna.com
