If you’ve got a glass of Bolly in your hand, life is already pretty good and, if that glass has come from a Jeroboam, you’re laughing (literally, I would imagine). But now Bollinger have managed to pimp James Bond’s favourite bubbly so that die-hard fans can go one step further than simply tasting the stuff.
Wine buffs amongst you might already know of Bollinger R.D. – the ‘Recently Disgorged’ variety that has had the removal of the frozen sediment after the second fermentation delayed until the last possible moment. This allows for extra maturation whilst maintaining freshness – the technique was brought in by Madame Bollinger herself. The extra brut ‘Bollinger R.D. 2000’ is the last to come out of the twentieth century and was disgorged on 7th July 2012. That’s 07/07/2012. Get it?
There are only 350 bottles of this double ‘07’ champagne around, which you can either purchase in a sleek little wooden box or you can relish as part of what can only be described as a life event. That or a hallucination.
‘The Bollinger Experience’ gets you one of these 3-litre beasts nestled in a silver basin and surrounded by eight crystal champagne flutes, all in a piece of furniture designed by Eric Berthes to look like one of Q’s cars. That final bit will last you forever, so you’d best make space for it in your home. Hell, build a new home or else it’ll be put to shame: it’s only £6,500, after all.
