With a capacity of just 40 (“and that’s packed”, say bartender Matt James), the Bathtub Gin Company isn’t one of those rowdy, elbow-y places where people throw down pitchers of ale. Instead it’s more contemplative, intimate place. And if it’s contemplation you’re looking for, get there early (it opens at 5pm daily) and take a seat to the left of the bar where there’s a well-stocked selection of drinking-related books on the shelves: Michael Jackson’s beer guides, Steve Rushin’s “The Pint Man” and Salvatore Calabrese’s “Cognac.
