Tom Parker Bowles, Esquire’s intrepid Food Editor, has gone on record arguing that there are only three cocktails you should ever need to make in your life (the Negroni, the Bloody Mary and the dry martini, since you asked). The good people of Grey Goose, however, have other ideas. They’re keen to expand your alcoholic horizons, and to do so they’ve enlisted the experts.
The Taste by Appointment project sees Grey Goose teaming up with a number of the UK’s finest bars and bartenders, providing one-on-one consultations to create cocktails perfectly matched to your own personal taste.
Esquire sat down at the Savoy’s Beaufort Bar with head bartender Christopher Moore, who deftly guided us through the options available at his formidably well-stocked bar.
Beginning with a base of Grey Goose (that’s sort of a given – the clue’s in the title) he quizzed us on our taste in both food and drink, and created a cocktail to match.
Ingredients were added, quantities were tweaked and glassware was discussed in earnest before we arrived at the end result. Like a longer, smoother Aperol spritzer, it’s absolutely delicious - but then we would say that.
Should you disagree, there’s plenty of time to discover your own bespoke cocktail – Taste by Appointment sessions are taking place at Hakkasan, Rhodes Twenty Four, Nobu and Quo Vadis. Swing by, and never order a Cosmopolitan again.
