Bar Boulud at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Knightsbridge, London, is a temple to sumptuous cooking and serious eating: the bistro of your dreams. Proprietor Daniel Boulud – he of the Michelin three-star Daniel, in New York, among many other gastronomic destination restaurants – and head chef Dean Yasharian serve a full à la carte menu, with charcuterie, house-made terrines, pâtés, hams, saucissons and boudins prepared onsite by a world-class Charcutier as well as Boulud’s American specialities: theYankee, Frenchie, Piggie and signature BB Burger. (You haven't eaten burger until you've eaten Boulud's burger.)
Now, with the Bouchon Menu, inspired by the authentic Bouchons of Lyon, Boulud’s home town, they are offering two courses with a glass of wine and coffee for £17 or three courses for £19 from midday until 7pm daily. The menu changes daily and focuses on simple French cooking. Typical dishes include Poitrine de Porc (Pork Belly), Moules à la Crème (Mussels with Crème Fraîche), Truite aux Amandes (Rainbow Trout with Almonds), and Poulet Rôti (Roasted Chicken).
A seat at one of London's top tables, lunch and wine and coffee for less than twenty quid? What's the French for "bargain"?
