Let us take a moment to remember when Salt Bae came into existence and the world changed forevermore.
Here he is, cooking his steak to perfection, slicing it like a maestro and, for his final flourish, a sprinkling of salt that would earn him the title of Salt Bae and 8 million views. The video and sprinkle in particular became a meme that captured the imagination and silliness of the internet.
The adventure continues as now Turkish chef Nusret Gökçe – the artist formally known as Salt Bae – is opening a restaurant in London. Gökçe told Turkish newspaper Hurriyet that chains of his Nusr-et grill are in the works for London and New York. He can't speak much English but can "communicate with people through meat." Sounds like a fine language to us.
When asked about the salty flourish which has become his trademark he commented: "I did not do that to show off. It is just my signature. You can think of it as a kind of final touch for a painting. It was a final touch to the meat; I was blessing the meat."
Consider it #Blessed.
