To celebrate their 16-month anniversary (one that gets overlooked way too often), on Tuesday 11th June Hawksmoor Spitalfields Bar will be launching a brand new menu as well as unveiling their very own entrance next door to the restaurant. Pretty exciting stuff.
Doing what they do best, owners Will Beckett and Huw Gott have created a selection of heart-clogging-but-worth-it dishes including Seoul Ribs – baby back ribs with a distinctly Korean soul; XO Chicken Wings – tossed with Hong Kong’s dried shrimp-heavy XO chilli sauce; Pulled Pork Bun and the Pig’s Head Poutine – a pile of chips, topped with cheese curds, braised pig’s head and gravy – something not for the faint-hearted.
Although we can’t help but feel slightly betrayed, the revamped menu also gives diners a vegetarian option. The Chana Masala Burger – a tribute to the local, Sweet and Spicy curry house on Brick Lane – is a burger-shaped version of their Chanan Masala (chickpea curry), stacked with lime pickle, chunky raita and khara boondi (chickpea flour puffs).
The drinks will still revolve around five Desert Island Drinks, assembled by a different member of the cracking cocktail team each month. But do not fear, the Hawksmoor classics such as Shaky Pete’s Ginger Brew and Marmalade Cocktail will be a permanent fixture.
