A new Hawksmoor is always something to mark with a little fist pump and perhaps even a small cry of excitement. Perhaps it’s the way they cook those feathery steaks, it could just be those triple-cooked chips, maybe it’s the pre-dinner cocktail menu or those after-dinner salted caramel rolos. Strike all that, it’s probably the mac n’ cheese.
Anyway, if you’re as a big a fan as we are then, stop what you’re doing and take note that today is the official opening date of Will Beckett and Huw Gott’s steakhouse in Knighstbridge.
Located on the former site of Frankie Dettori’s restaurant Frankies, the basement space takes its design cues from an opulent 1930s cruise liner, with Art Deco touches are everywhere from the brass bar lamps to the window detailing.
The menu comprises the signature cuts of doorstep-thick steaks alongside collaborator Mitch Tonks’s seafood dishes which have become a feature of the Air Street branch, including Lobster roll with sriracha & yuzu and Steamed halibut with sorrel salsa verde.
Other highlights include a giant Ferrero Rocher (need we go on?) from Pastry Chef Carla Henriques, a feature wine cellar adjacent to the dining room which promises some serious wines including Beychevelle 1966 and Cheval Blanc 1970, and a cocktail menu which includes a ‘top shelf’ drink called Fo’ Shizzle Ma Nizzle Swizzle, a Snoop’s gin’n’juice inspired mix of Tanqueray Ten, grapefruit juice, sherbet and bitters.
If you need to find an excuse to go back to Hawksmoor, this new location should be more than enough reason.
