Not content with revolutionising the online shopping experience or promising us that we’ll soon be receiving our packages from high-tech drones rather than panting postmen, Amazon have unveiled their first phone, the Amazon Fire.

Promising a new take on user interactivity, the Fire offers 3D visuals via four-face tracking cameras mounted on the front, which will react to the user’s gestures and adjust the image accordingly, to create the illusion of a 3 dimensional image via a trick of the eye called ‘motion parallax’.

Set to launch in the U.S. at the end of next month, a U.K release is should happen around 6 months later, just in time for your Christmas wish-list.

Here are five reasons why we can’t wait to get our hands on one.

1 | Visuals
As well as establishing a 3D image, the phone’s gesture controls mean you can scroll through a webpage or bring up a new tab just by tilting the phone. When it comes to maps, you’ll also be able to navigate a detailed 3D replica of the street, on the 4.7-inch LCD HD display, meaning you’ll never get lost again.

2 | Apps
The Firefly app can be used to identify images, music and text in the vicinity of the phone. So, no more Googling lyrics to find out the name of a song, just hit the Fire’s dedicated Firefly button and become the most knowledgeable person in the room.

Unfortunately, this does mean that Amazon will gain even more information on your shopping / eating and drinking habits, so expect even more emails suggesting products you’d love to buy from them.

You’ll also be able to download Amazon’s Prime Music app as well as media apps from the company’s competitors Pandora, Netflix and Spotify. There’s also a strong emphasis on Amazon’s Kindle technology, with the Fire coming equipped with “immersion reading” that lets you read a book and listen to it at the same time.

3 | Data storage
It’s difficult, in these days when every meal / activity / dog picture had to be shared on Instagram, to find enough storage on your phone. Add in some videos and a comprehensive music library and you can soon find yourself having to pay to top up your data allowance.

The Amazon Fire is set to combat that and comes with 32GB of storage, twice that of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 5S, meaning you can download all the apps and make full use of the 13-megapixel camera with image stabilisation technology.

4 | The price
Usually, the release of a new smartphone means tech enthusiasts will have to tighten their belts. Not the case with the Fire Phone which costs just £177, on top of a two-year contract. That’s the same price Amazon Fire’s carrier network AT&T charges for the 16GB versions of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 5S, making the choice obvious.

5 | Mayday
If there’s one thing that irks us, it’s spending endless minutes on hold to customer services. Amazon have found a way around this, with their new Mayday feature, giving you the ability to video call and Amazon adviser with a promise of a response within 15 seconds.

Fingers crossed you’ll never need it.

The Amazon Fire will be available in the U.S from July 25. No U.K release date as of yet.
