Design | The Shape-Shifting Table

Design | The Shape-Shifting Table

Strapped for space but too lazy to put a bunch of shelves up? This table is made for you.

'Un-tidy' is the latest work by designer Kostantia Manthou. Based in Milan, Manthou is an architect with a masters in Industrial Design from Milan's school of design. As well as creating solo works, she's also part of Kiro Kolektif, a group project that took place during Milan design week 2012, Manthou specialises in functional home design. This time she's turned her hand to the side table.

Always an awkward item, the side table. Get one with no storage and
you'll end up stacking magazines and books haphazardly underneath it.
Get one with two much storage and you'll feel obliged to fill it with
any old crap. Un-tidy fixes that problem, expanding and contracting to
the contents inside it. Always had a couple of books you've always
wanted to pretend you've read but can't be bothered actually reading
them? (We're looking at you, James Joyce's Ulysses) Stick them in the
side table. It's the perfect way to showcase your great taste in side
tables and books at the same time. You'll want to put some random
cracks in the spine of those 'well read' books too, just in case
someone gets too nosy.
