Gentlemen, the hoverboard is here.

The stuff of fantasy for everyone who has ever seen Back To Future Part III, the Aero X is the brainchild of flying vehicle company Aerofex. Capable of getting up to ten feet off the ground, the 'hoverbike,' as it's being labelled, can zoom about at speeds of 45 miles. You drive it in the same way as a motorbike, leaning in the direction you want to head in to manipulate its movement.

The frame is powered by a three-cylinder gas engine, with what is essentially two huge fans propelling it. It can carry a maximum of two people at once, provided they weight uner 140KG, so you can strap a mate on the back for your maiden voyage.

Its creators are billing it as a potential search-and-rescue tool, but we're more interested in the possibility of taking it to a river and gunning it over water.

You can put a deposit down to secure a model now, but, with an $85,000 estimated final price and a sceduled 2017 release date, it might be one for the back-burner.

But still: 2014, we applaud you.
