We’ve all been there. “Been busy tonight mate?” or “What time you on ‘til?”. Among all the awkward chats you have in life – in-laws, elevators, toilet queues – the close quarters taxi driver smalltalk is possibly the worst.

Uber – the affordable car hire service revolutionising the way we nip two streets away to Tescos – has clearly had enough. No longer will you have to actually talk to their drivers, or put up with the Magic FM they’ve got blasting out on those post-pub rides home.

Instead, starting this Friday, Spotify premium members will be able to put together their own playlists to accompany them on the move through Uber car stereos, meaning we're now able to soundtrack even more of our lives.

However, if you’re a driver and don’t fancy listening to someone’s “Best of indie 2006” playlist at 2am, don’t worry, you'll still be given the option to reject their deeply thoughtout playlist and listen to their drunken small talk instead.

The Spotify Uber partnership launches 21 November in ten cities across the world – from London to Sydney.
