1 | Your First Chance At A Bionic High-Five

Austrian scientists have paved the way for those suffering from limb disabilities by performing ‘bionic reconstructions’ on three men suffering from a form of paralysis that left them unable to move one hand.

Much like Luke Skywalker re-building his hand post-Empire Strikes Back, the three men had their lower arms amputated and replaced with a robotic replacement that responds to electronic impulses from the brain. The patients will have to take drugs to stop their bodies rejecting the new technology for the rest of their lives, but early reports indicate the bionic limbs offer a full range of functions from undoing buttons, using cutlery, and presumably high-fiving the doctors responsible.

2 | Your New Holiday Toy

Adventurer Sean Conway told us, ‘you might have a 9 to 5, but you’ve got 5 to 9 as well’. With that in mind there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be gearing up to brave the great outdoors this weekend.

Of course, in this social media-saturated age the rule is that everything must be documented, or it didn’t happen. The new HD ActionCamcorder from German manufacturers Rollei (waterproof, fully WiFi capable and featuring 1080p recording) offers an alternative to your battered GoPro and is a must-have whether you’re mountain biking up Snowdonia, or venturing as far as Zone 5 on the tube (although we don’t recommend the latter).

3 | Your Chance To Do Right By Kanye’s Mum

It ain’t easy being Yeezy, as we’re all well aware. When you’re not having to deal with Kim Kardashian taking pictures of herself every few seconds, you’re getting bleeped out at the Brit Awards.

But, while we’re waiting for Kanye’s new album, he’s planning a little something to keep us occupied in the form of a video game setting players the task of helping his late mother get into heaven. It all sounds pretty erm ‘out there’ but then again if anyone can pull ‘out there’ off, it’s Yeezus.

4 | Your ‘3D Printers Get On My Nerves’ Argument Just Lost Credibility

Nerves, it turns out, have very little ability to regenerate and repair themselves, meaning quite often that if you damage them, you’re likely to loose all feeling that area (no, dead legs don’t count).

A new breakthrough from the University of Sheffield means that 3D printed guides could be used to fix the problem by building a framework of tubes to guide damaged nerve endings back together. It's been used in animals and If further testing proves successful, could soon become standard procedure in humans. Imagine the aggro this could have saved had it been around to fix (big bad) Renard’s damaged brain nerves in seminal James Bond outing The World Is Not Enough.

5 | Your Chance To Train Like A Futuristic Rocky Balboa

Skipping – long the cardio workout of choice for eight year-old girls and cauliflower-eared boxers – has just been given an upgrade in the form of the Smart Rope.

How smart can a skipping rope really be? Quite smart, it turns out. The LED sensors in the rope will track your jumps and sync the date to your smartphone, but the real deal-sealer is the rope’s ability to display the stats in front of your very eyes while skipping, like some sort of fitness Minority Report. Eye of the tiger, etc…
