It's hot, so hot the sun is seemingly swallowing the city, melting pavements and turning your mattress into a bed of coals, or some other lazy fire-based metaphor.

Undoubtedly the worst aspect of this continuing heatwave is the daily humiliation of riding the inferno on wheels that is the London Underground.

The extent of our degradation has been confirmed by Transport for London, who have compared the different circles of hell (or as they like to call them, tube lines) by heat.

Those jammy Metropolitan riders just don't know what the Bakerloo line users have to suffer, enduring an insane 8.5 degrees of additional heat.

BBC News foreign reporter Leisha Chi also tweeted this map of the lines by average temperature making the valid point that the comparisons were useless in these sweltering times.
