Despite the long held theory that morning time is the right time for great sex, hormone expert Alisa Vitti says the real magic hour - for women at least - is actually 3pm.

Vitti told the Daily Mail that around that time, women have high levels of the hormone cortisol, which makes them more energetic and alert. Around the same time, men have an increase in estrogen (the female hormone that's also found in men), which she said makes us "more emotionally present" during sex (up for foreplay, in other words).

The only problem? Since testosterone builds over night, men are at their horniest in the morning when the stuff is basically stockpiled in our bodies meaning the optimum times don't match up. Thanks, nature.

In any case, the 3pm slot isn't particularly practical for either sex unless you happen to have a very cool boss. Or, y'know, no job.
