We will not lie to you: when Chris Morris got up to address the small audience before last week’s screening of Four Lions, his brilliant new comedy about a cell of hapless British jihadis planning a terrorist outrage, we experienced a tangible buzz of excitement. After so long away, the great enigma of British comedy was back in business. (more…)

You’d be hard pressed not to get the concept behind the new cookbook from the Canteen restaurant group, which is just out (Ebury). Yes it’s British, yes there’s food involved, and — assuming you know how to follow a recipe — it’ll be pretty great too. It also looks rather handsome, as the pictures after the jump show, plus find out how to win one of five copies we’re giving away. (more…)

These extraordinary shoes are based on the recently vaunted idea that it’s better for our bodies to exercise bare foot – an experience the Vibram FiveFingers trainers simulate while insulating you from the dirt and hazardous sharp stuff littering our pavements. It’s ironic that when a story arises about how you no longer need to spend a hundred quid on branded trainers, a product appears attempting to charge a hundred quid for the privilege. Nothing in this life comes for free and in this case, we suggest, elegance is too high a price to pay for ergonomics. £99, from www.lovethoseshoes.com

Ever wondered who some of those random names that Oscar winners endlessly reel off actually are? Kitsuné Maison, the musical minds behind some of the biggest acts of 2009 including La Roux, obviously weren’t happy with ridding you of all your money on music downloads, and look set to empty your wallet of even more cash with the opening of the new Kitsuné temporary clothes store on Omotesando in Tokyo. Stocked with their own-brand totes, sneakers, shirts and apparel, in a sort of toned-down East London aesthetic, the lifestyle entrepreneurs seem to be as adept in fashion as they are in music. www.maisonkitsune.fr/clothes/special/boutique-tokyo/ (more…)

We’ve followed Marc Newson’s career ever since we ate at Coast, a restaurant he designed in London in the mid-Nineties, and saw shots of a concept car, the 021C, he created for Ford back in 1999. Newson’s Ikepod brand of watches launched around the same time, and, amazingly, looks almost as far out and futuristic now as it did then. We recently met Newson to hear about his new timepiece, the Hourglass, which really is a big hourglass. (more…)

The launch of a new season of Drakes products is always bitter sweet. The upside is that there’s an exciting new array of ties and accessories available, at least half of which we’d like to own, but the downside is the massive impending hit on the credit card. (more…)

Press releases come in many different forms. We’ve featured some of the stranger and more lavish on this website before but we can honestly say that until yesterday we had never received a Konditor & Cook cake mocked up as a giant bottle of Wash & Go, in celebration of the preeminent all-in-one shampoo and conditioner brand’s 21st birthday. Don’t they say you should never eat blue food?
