When Ryan Gosling rolls up to a red carpet event, it's pretty safe to assume he'll be one of the most stylish guys there. But occasionally, even the mighty can stumble, which the Gos did last night courtesy of one tiny oversight.

At the 28th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards Gala, Gosling came close to upstaging the (sartorial) competition in his black grosgrain shawl New Signoria tux from the Gucci 2017 cruise collection. Like a pro, he even rocked the white covered-placket evening shirt, sans tie.

The only problem (and while it might seem nitpicky, it's an important one) is that his sleeves were a little too long. Ideally, there should be about a quarter to a half inch of shirtsleeve peeking out from the bottom of the jacket sleeve, and the shirtsleeve should hit just at the bottom of the wrist.

But Gos's jacket sleeve blows right past there and into that no man's land between wrist and thumb—no shirtsleeve in sight. Which is a shame, because everything else here is spot on. The fit of the jacket, the hem of the trousers, the general cool guy-ness. It's all there.

Now, considering that a movie star of Gosling's caliber is constantly on display at events, premieres, and red carpets, it's understandable that an oversight can happen. And, comparatively speaking, an extra inch on a sleeve is less of a miss than your trousers being way too tight. But let this be a lesson to you, when it comes to tailoring, no detail is too small to ignore.
