Look, we're not here to treat you like some kind of bozo.We know that you're fully capable of tucking in a T-shirt. Chances are you have hands, a brain and, depending on when you read this, fabric covering your giblets. What more could you need?

And we're also aware that, for decades now, the tucked-in tee has fallen under the umbrella of dreaded 'dad fashion', alongside massive fleeces and off-brand running shoes.

But over the past year the tuck-in has become a bonafide trend, championed by street style stalwarts such as ASAP Rocky and 'Off White' supremo Virgil Abloh as well as brands like Gucci.

And it's not as simple as it looks. So follow our five rules and tuck it right, and you'll be pulling off one of this season's suavest style moves...

Get the fit right

Every stylish man understands the struggle that can go into finding a T-shirt that truly fits – and that sometimes it means splashing out on some wince-worthy price tags for the privilege.

If you're aiming for a tapered V-shape with your tuck-in – the kind of thing you can wear in the office without being asked if "everything's alright at home?" - make sure to invest in more structured material to avoid bunching up around the waistline and ripples on the torso. Sunspel offers robust cotton tees that will hold their shape come what may.

Pick the right trousers

Smart, tapered trousers in a complimentary block colour are the best best, because in the absence of layers and patterns all eyes will be on your fit. Additionally, an elasticated waist will ensure that you aren't forced to bunch and fold your T-shirt to keep its shape - COS' inner drawstring waistbands are the way to go.

Understand your body shape

The tucked-in tee can be an unforgiving beast. Anything too fitted – or lightweight - will only enhance any curvatures on your chest, transforming your sought-after 'V' into an unmistakable 'W' if you have moobs.

To that end, opt for darker tones that show less shadow and, as we've point out previously, choose a slightly heavier fabric.

Tuck behind tailoring

Wearing a lightweight T-shirt under a suit jacket is one of the smartest ways to stay cool in all situations this summer (the "perfect sweet spot of high and low" according to menswear designer Shimon Ovadia), but the look is not without its perils.

Complimentary colours are crucial - lest you end up looking like a Miami Vice cosplayer - to keep the ensemble as uncomplicated and clean as possible. Make sure the cut of your jacket is right, opting for a slim-fit and narrow lapels so as not to overcrowd the simplicity of the T-shirt. Reiss is always a good option.
