60 Second Review | Zero Dark Thirty
Zero Dark Thirty, apology for torture or just a good film? Read on to find out.
Pros
After reading some articles about Zero Dark Thirty, the Kathryn Bigelow-directed flim chronicling the capture of Bin Laden, it's easy to think it'll be a 24-style torturethon. Thankfully, it's nothing of the sort. The scenes that feature torture depict it as an awful, brutal act as opposed to a sexy way of extracting information. The crux of the film is Jessica Chastain's character, who relies more on her bullheaded stubbornness than inflicting pain.
Cons
It's hard to keep the tension up on an event that's so recent, so the fact that Zero Dark Thirty does so is quite a feat in itself. But the fact remains that, from about halfway through, you're simply waiting for the inevitable.
Should you see it?
Yes. Although it's a notch below The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty is a thrilling film that captures the attention.
