Could Go Either Way | Faded Denim

Could Go Either Way | Faded Denim

Faded denim has made a comeback of sorts, but pulling off the look successfully is riddled with pitfalls. Here's how to walk the tightrope:

1 Levi's (above)

There's not much left to say about Levi's. This pair of light wash 501's should be worn with caution though. Pair it with a white T-shirt or a matching denim jacket and you're a microphone away from a Shakin' Stevens impression.

Instead try a navy shirt, be it a T-shirt or a regular shirt, and a pair of trainers. (£70, ASOS)

2 Han Kjobenhavn

Danish brand Han Kjobenhavn have specialised in the art of washing denim since their launch in 2008.

This denim is proof that they've mastered the art. It 's playing it safe, sure, but at least it's a change from straight indigo.

The slight fade means this will work nicely with an overdyed colour on top, like a dark green T-shirt. (€129, Caliroots)

3 Jean Shop

Jean Shop have been around for just under a decade. The US brand uses Japanese selvedge denim and makes a great straight fit, which is much more friendly than the prevailing skinny fit you see around. (£295, Mr Porter)

4 Final Thought

When considering a pair of light denim jeans, keep this photograph of Joe Calzaghe close at all times. And do the opposite.
