The Emergency Guide to Shorts

The Emergency Guide to Shorts

Unexpectedly, summer is here so you're going to need some emergency shorts to deal with this unexpected bout of actual good weather. We're here to help you out.

First off, the most important thing about shorts is length. Too long and you look like the sort of person who grows a tuft of hair under their bottom lip and wears flip flops.

Too short and you'll be far too close to a wardrobe malfunction for comfort. The ideal length is about an inch above your knee, which are short enough to be shorts but not so short they become boxer shorts. Anyway...

If you're anything like us, you'll have a mountain of shirts in varying shades of white and blue. While navy shorts are a great option, we don't blame you if you'd like some choice. These brick red shorts (Mr Porter, £105) work well with both white and light blues, making a relatively simple outfit look a step above.

2 YMC

You probably have a pair of navy shorts already, so it makes sense toget a pair in a (slightly) different shade. These YMC shorts (ASOS, £110) are (a) the right length and (b) just unique enough - using linen to make it more lightweight - to justify a purchase.

3 Uniqlo

The value option. Need a pair of nice shorts yesterday? Then these are for you. Costing a grand total of £10, these chino shorts remind us why we love a bit of Uniqlo.

They've made a plethora of colours but we think the best version is the trustworthy navy, which will work with just about any outfit. (Uniqlo, £10)
