In a week where he refused to enter his wildly popular second album Blonde for Grammy consideration, Frank Ocean went one step further in the give-a-fuck stakes by attending a White House state dinner hosted by President Obama in a navy suit and checkerboard vans... and somehow making it work.

While we have been espousing the merits of matching your suiting with trainers for a while now, there's a difference between a pair of high-end white Common Projects and Vans slip-ons. Not that we're complaining, mind you.

When pushed on the reason behind picking a pair of laid-back Vans for such an esteemed event, the 28-year-old said: "You can't think, you have to do things."

While we don't quite buy the notion that Frank's outfit wasn't at all considered, you've got to respect the way he's made it all look so carefree. Bonus points for the slim cut on the suit and omission of a tie too, both of which keep the look cohesive.

Frank's already rocked Vans with formalwear before, sporting a pair of Old Skools to the Time Gala back in 2013; a prescient adoption of 2016's trendiest trainer.

And the lady on his arm? That's his mum. Which is nice, isn't it.
