Dr Martens DM Lite
It might be one of the most iconic shoes of all time, but that doesn't mean Dr Martens' 8-Eye boot can't have a revamp. The DM's Lite is the Northamptonshire shoemaker's first reimagining of the boot since it first appeared in the Sixties. The original AirWair sole was lauded for its lightness, flexibility and comfort, but as technology has advanced over the decades, they've come to be one of the heftier boots on the market. The new Lite, though, is the same shape as the 8-Eye, but just a fraction of the weight, and with moisture-wicking memory foam insole, it's a bit comfier too. We'd never deter you from a pair of DM stompers, they're as timelessly stylish as they are hardy, but if you want the same look with a lot less heft, you know where to look.
Penfield AW16 Collection
Established in 1975, Penfield has been making style-conscious adventure-ready clothing for over the 30 years now, but over the past few seasons, that adventure readiness may have fallen away a little while the aesthetics came to the fore. The new AW16 collection, though, is a return to the company's knack for properly technical outwear, and we're into it. Take the Lexington Parka. It's water resistant and insulating, but still lightweight and breathable. Then there's the Mackinaw down jacket, which is water resistant and windproof, but packs down into a stuff sack. Our favourite pieces though are the lightweight coats and mid layers, such as the Prescott fleece bomber or the Oakdale quilted jacket, which will be right at home being layered up with a field jacket, selvedge denim and fresh trainers. Essentially, it's bona fide streetwear that will keep you warm and dry, and you've got to love that.
Soulland X Nike SB
Right, this collection dropped online last week, so some of it has already sold out. But fear not, the second drop goes into stores today! In a meeting of skateboarding royalty, American super-branding and youthful Nordic cool, Nike and Eric Koston have collaborated with Soulland on a seven-piece collection of apparel and shoes. According to the Danish brand's creative director Silas Adler, the clothing is 'practical and functional with close attention to detail', but the collab's most potent draw is the footwear, three pairs of shoes that will get sneakerheads purring. There are two handsome new versions of Koston's pro shoe, the Koston 1, but the Koston 3 Hyperfeel is clearly the billboard design. It features that flyknit collar Nike are putting on everything at the moment, and 'Hyperfeel' construction, which promises to improve the bond between wearer, shoe and skateboard (or pavement, if you don't partake). Head to Goodhoodor Oki-Ni immediately, or pontificate for five minutes and miss your chance. The choice is yours…
Les Basics Utilite Moderne
We're getting in early on this one because we think it might take off, and we want to give you the heads up. Les Basics is a spanking new brand that specializes in, you've guessed it, basics, but with a difference. Crew neck tees are cut from garment-dyed cotton mesh, bomber-style track jackets are realized in loopback fleece and there's a cardigan-blazer-hybrid that's so soft, simple and unstructured you won't know weather to wear it to work or after a bath. More product drops are on the way, but right now your best bet is to get 'Le Peak Cap', a simple five-panel in that aforementioned mega soft fleece. Les Basics; you heard it here first.
Jo Malone Basil & Neroli Cologne
When we first got a whiff of JM's new Basil & Neroli concoction a couple months back we were blown away at the simple freshness and depth. One of the brand's most impressive fragrances to date, its floral, but not overtly so, and the basil gives it a spiciness that keeps it masculine. If you've been toying with the idea of a unisex fragrance – a trend that only seems to be gathering pace – then this is good place to start.
