Trendwatch - Pique Practice

The pique lapel is undergoing a revival (again). It makes sense; the notched lapel is the embodiment of the slightly tired Mad Men revival so the pendulum has swung the other way.

And swing it has. The peak lapel is now the lapel of choice as showcased by Gary Barlow, who wore this Vivienne Westwood blazer on the X-Factor last weekend.

It's a rather Italian way of doing things, adding some flamboyance to an outfit. While it can go wrong - see every gangster film from the '80s and '90s as proof - when done right they add a laid back feel to any smart outfit.

While the Westwood lapel might be a little too pronounced for some - it does resemble wings - there's no doubting that the pique should be a part of your wardrobe weaponry. Just avoid watching any Steven Seagal movie for inspiration. (my-wardrobe, £745)
