On this very day 30 years ago, John McEnroe ended Bjorn Borg's five year Wimbledon winning streak and so cemented one of sport's most famous rivalries. As of this week, that rivalry has been reignited - through the medium of men's underpants.
The collection from Borg's own underwear label is made up of four different styles, two designed by Borg, two by McEnroe - styles which interestingly according to Borg "reflect our approaches to tennis."
As you'd expect from a collection entitled , the launch was little more than a giant love-in. "Every time I see John is special," opened Borg. "No-one has the touch and feeling we have when we get together."
"He made me a better player," countered McEnroe, before adding "and a better man."
But Borg closed things out with the outright winner: "I've always loved John", going on to say "if we can do things with underwear, I'm sure we can do something more in the future." It's hard to see Nadal and Djokovic following in these illustrious footsteps come 2041.
