Kanye West Somehow Managed To Get Jeans Wrong

Massive cuffs are not a thing

Most Popular

Cuffed jeans are a throwback to workwear days of yore when miners and blue collar labourers wore sturdy selvedge to dig for tin and toil in fallow fields, but are now most likely to be seen on the legs of barbers, graphic designers and anyone that prefixes their job title with the word "artisan."

Oh - and Kanye West, who recently took the trend and, as is his wont, made it look a bit ridiculous.

Ever the innovator, Kanye isn't the kind of guy to stand still when it comes to what he wears, but there are some looks that even the most-copied and scrutinised trend-setter in streetwear shouldn't try.

Looks like really, really massive cuffs on your jeans.

Long time no see @kidcudi and #kanyewest. Thank you for coming to my studio. It was fire 🔥🔥🔥

During a recent visit to the studio of Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, Kanye was photographed in what at first appears to be his usual 40-year-old-rapper-meets-14-year-old-trainer-obsessive aesthetic (the trainers are the yet-to-be-released "Semi-Frozen Yellow" Yeezy Boost 350 V2's), but look a littler closer and you'll notice some inexplicably super-sized cuffs on his slim black jeans.

While we respect the attempt to push boundaries and chop and change modern silhouettes, the end result of Kanye's denim experiment is that of a guy whose tailor has left him high and dry while he was waiting to get his jeans hemmed, which we're fairly sure wasn't the desired effect when he picked them out that morning.

If you're looking to try out selvedge or cuffed denim, then it's best to avoid anything that shows more than a couple of inches at the bottom, particularly if you're on the shorter side (Kanye is 5'8").

Unless you want to look like an adult who doesn't know how to buy jeans that fit, that is.
