Tertiary tones, rounded shoulders, poker straight legs and three button jackets were everywhere, and suede, velour and nylon were the fabrics of choice. Bright white, wellington  inspired ankle boots, patent leather penny loafers and brushed leather lace-ups were teamed (remarkably) with britches, pop socks and the occasional white lab coat.

The adaptable trend? We're guessing you probably won't go for the booties, but boxy over-sized shoulders were strong and the use of bold patterns in understated tones was inspired. In fact, if we were to take away one lesson from Prada's AW '11 show it would be that when it comes to colour, less is definitely more.
