Back in May I wrote about the unique process of ordering a pair of trousers from Neapolitan tailor Salvatore Ambrosi. They eventually arrived wrapped without ceremony in a brown paper envelope and were immediately put aside because by then spring was turning to summer and substantial cords were temporarily of no use to me. However, now the leaves are falling from the trees and both the temperature and the colours in the park have put cords back on the agenda.
Here are some shots that reveal the baroque details that Ambrosi puts into his trousers; together they represent a virtuoso tailoring performance of a kind alien to Savile Row. Unfortunately Ambrosi has not yet awakened a British appetite for his trousers, with the result that a proposed trip to see clients in London last month was cancelled. If you are interested he can be contacted through his Facebook page, and will re-schedule his trip to the UK if sufficient demand is expressed. I, for one, am hoping it is.
