Into American craft beer? New World wine buff? Go somewhere else. West London institution The Lonsdale is back from its refurbishment, and is more serious about cocktails then ever. Moody lighting, a glittering back bar and ostrich leather clad seating makes for the perfect environment to work your way through the extensive list.
Many of the drinks come from the hand of bartending royalty Dick Bradsell; the (coffee based) Pharmaceutical Stimulant, for example, is a mood-boosting hit of caffeine and alcohol that is guaranteed to put you on course for a big night. We tried the A&A Negroni, a good (though perhaps too wet) T10 martini with a twist of grapefruit, a Bloodhound, and — if memory serves, which by this point, it may not — a Black Bison vodka concoction.
Thankfully, the food here is excellent and substantial. Don’t mess around — go straight for steak and chips. (And perhaps just one more martini on the side for good measure…)
