There is an element of this summer’s World Cup that the England squad has already lost to its Italian counterparts, which is the competition for the best-dressed team.
Marks & Spencer has provided the England team with suits that are perfectly presentable but less than spectacular, while the Italian team’s uniform - designed by Dolce & Gabbana– has outstripped the opposition.
Constituting the crux of the outfit is a ‘Martini’ suit, in classic Azzurro blue. Featuring a two-button jacket complete with spearheaded lapels, the single-breasted outer-layer is to be worn with a simple white shirt, a jacquard blue tie (with tiepin) and a four-button waistcoat.
In addition to the suit, the team will also be equipped with a quilted blue trench coat (though we imagine the South African climate won’t require extra layers), black calfskin lace-ups and a pair of aviator sunglass complete with Italian flag at the hinge.
As if the extra details weren’t enough, Dolce & Gabanna has also provided the team with on-brand underwear. That is, if the latest ad campaign, which features the Italian team lounging around in their D&G branded skivvies, is anything to go by.
