While duffle's are nothing new (as Royal Navy servicemen would attest) it's only recently that we've seen designers take to doing them up for spring. There have been a few attempts at summer duffles before but, like everything, it's taken designers a couple of tries before they got it right.
First to take up the challenge was duffle experts, Gloverall. Using nylon instead of wool is a big step for a company so steeped in tradition, but anything to avoid the wet dog smell is fine by us. But our favourite has to be this Margaret Howell version for her MHL diffusion line. It's sleek, slim and, most importantly, light enough to wear right until the day you start needing shorts again. www.margarethowell.co.uk
