In praise of the cashmere polo

The launch of a new season of Drakes products is always bitter sweet. The upside is that there’s an exciting new array of ties and accessories available, at least half of which we’d like to own, but the downside is the massive impending hit on the credit card. While I’ve already covered the casual wonders of the unlined raw silk ties and the textured glory of the shantung silk ties there’s another piece on sale we haven’t mentioned before, which are these cashmere polo shirts. They are, of course, a pure example of understated Euro chic, and all the better for it. I imagine one, worn over a shirt, keeping me warm on a cool summer evening, but I’m willing to lay it on record that I’ll unashamedly wear one draped over my shoulders on spring days. Much to the horror of my wife. £295, www.drakes-london.com
