It's the age of the wooden tie!

It's the unlikeliest style fad we've heard of since the snood or ridiculously short trousers, but if it's good enough for tie aficionado Jon Snow then it's got to be worth investigating. Ladies and, more pertinently, gentlemen, we give you (drum roll please)... the wooden tie.

Mark Playne, founder of the company Wooden Ties, claims that his revolutionary neckpiece is a source of fun amidst the seriousness of the workplace.

"The ties represent the British sense of humour," he says. "They are smart and beautifully made, light and comfortable but wearing one is really irreverent and slightly rebellious. People who like the ties wear them everyday and love the uniqueness of them."

If you want to get your hands on one of these weird and wonderful stocking fillers, head to The Oxford Street Christmas Market near Marble Arch. "It was great when Jon Snow wore one," Playne says. "So many people saw it. One customer yelled: 'Here they are, I have found them!'"

The ties are crafted by hand in Mr Playne’s Bath studio in Bath, and are available from £15. For more, see www.woodenties.co.uk
