We've been talking, for some time now, about wearing casual garments in situations where smart attire would traditionally be expected. Tracksuit bottoms to the office for instance, or a hoodie to a funeral.

It's a trend the designers have been pushing for a while. At Bottega Veneta (this season's hero brand) creative director Tomas Maier sent out boiled wool tracksuit bottoms so immaculatey cut they could be mistaken for suit trousers. Haider Ackerman, Gucci and Paul Smith produced similar garments.

Likewise, at both Burberry Prorsum and Louis Vuitton precisely cut two piece suits were sent out teamed with string vests and trainers (albeit trainers made from crocodile skin, in the case of the latter).

Thing is, it's all well and good wearing tracksuit bottoms to the office, but as the long nights and short, cold days set in, where you really want to wear your downtime garments is at home, on the sofa, where your hands can also benefit from the softness of your cashmere tracksuit bottoms.
