In Search Of The Perfect Shirt

Thomas Pink's new custom service is a shot at shirt nirvana

Finding a shirt that you’re 100 per cent happy with isn’t easy. There are so many variables in how a shirt is made and so many individual preferences as to how we want it, it’s understandably rare that the two marry up.

For a start, there’s the all-important combination of fit, body length, neck size and sleeve length. That’s before you get on to the details of collar style, placket, sleeve design, buttons and cuff styles. And we haven’t even touched on the all-important fabric and colour.

No wonder we men seem to accumulate shirts throughout our life in a neverending quest to find ‘the one’. A mythical shirt that delivers on every level.

While this will probably remain a dream when buying off the peg, Thomas Pink’s new 'Personally Pink' custom shirt service has been developed to allow customers to tailor the shirt of their choice across all the parameters and categories you can think of.

Most Popular

Using a classic, slim or super slim block as the base, your neck size, sleeve length and body length will all be measured to fit.

Then it’s over to you to select from over 200 Italian shirt fabrics (provided by fabric maker Thomas Mason), 16 collar types and 8 cuff options. And the choices range from the ultimate weekend casual shirt to a dress shirt for special occasions.

The fitting itself takes half an hour or so, and the shirt will then be cut, constructed and available to be picked up instore within 3 weeks.

Monogramming is complimentary with a choice of 4 fonts and 8 colours, and you can choose exactly where you want it - from discreet to showy.

Prices start from £175 for traditional cotton, rising to £350 for the highly-rated Sea Island cotton which has a 120s thread count and is noticably soft to the touch.

When you consider how much some of us spend buying shirts we never wear, it seems like a small price to pay for that long-awaited perfect shirt.

The ‘Personally Pink’ Made To Order Service is available at Thomas Pink’s London flagship store on Jermyn Street as well as in Heathrow T2, Sloane Street, Blomfield Street, Canary Wharf and Selfridges. Appointments are complimentary and should be booked in advance although walk-in appointments are available. No minimum order required.
