Contemporary bespoke tailor Gresham Blake is gaining something of a cult following with his signature style – British milled materials with jaunty embellishments, bright patterned linings and gold or silver sleeve buttons – and he continues to make sartorial inroads with the opening of a new London boutique. In attendance at the launch of Blake’s flagship Shoreditch store were a number of the tailor’s impeccably-attired clients including Steve Coogan, actor Luke Evans and the inimitable Ray Winstone (who was so excited to be there that he took off his trousers).
The boutique is the third store opened by Blake since the outfitters was founded in Brighton in 2000. The décor combines mosaic-tiled floors with dramatic wooden display alcoves, whilst font-like Victorian sinks serve as show units for bright ties and floral print shirts. Light exposed brick walls are punctuated by low-lit vintage artwork along with rails bearing the tailor’s distinctive, quirky suiting.
Blake is revered by aficionados of the ‘new bespoke’ movement and, with his other clients including Nick Cave and Jimmy Page, you’re in safe hands if you’re looking to experiment with the Savile Row-meets-rockstar look of a true British eccentric.
