How quickly we’ve grown used to technology doing things for us. The iPhone is a mere four years old and yet we already expect every smartphone to surf the internet, play videos and manage our schedules. Caught somewhere between a smartphone and a tablet, Samsung wants the Galaxy Note to mark the beginning of an altogether new category.

With a huge 5.3in Super HD display, built-in stylus (the “S pen”), a dual-core 1.4GHz processor, full HD video and 4G connectivity, the Note weighs in at a mere 178g and is big enough to give split-screen operation (apps showing two windows at once) while still fitting into one hand, for use as a phone.

That S pen allows handwriting recognition and the ability to annotate maps, pictures and web pages on the fly. Oh, and let’s not forget the picture quality and media playback, which is astonishing. The only question is whether you're ready for a phone this size.
